John is currently the General Manager for Certainty Solutions in Canada, and is responsible for all client projects and service delivery through Certainty's Toronto office.
Before joining Certainty, John was with UUNET Canada (subsequently known as Worldcom Canada, and MCI Canada), where he was Director of Network Engineering and was also responsible for web hosting operations. Prior to that, he was a senior systems administrator at the University of Waterloo for 11 years where he was responsible for many innovations, including the installation and operation of the University's high reliability database server. His technical experience includes more than 20 years of experience in both UNIX and DOS/Windows systems.
John enjoys writing, and is a semi-regular contributor to ";login:", the magazine of USENIX and SAGE. He is the author of the SAGE booklet "System and Network Administration for Higher Reliability", and has also written conference papers, led seminars and tutorials, and served on several conference program committees. John was elected to the SAGE executive in December 2002.
John will be presenting two full-day tutorials on System and Network Monitoring (tutorials T3 and W3) at the USENIX Annual Technical Conference in June 2003.
He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Master's degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Waterloo.
John and his family live in Unionville, Ontario.
